You are born in Ireland in the late 1842’s, during the start of the potato famine. You are wondering why this is happening while you slowly get old enough to understand what it is exactly that is happening, when your father marches in heavily breathing and shivering from hunger and your mother decides that it is time to leave like all of your neighbors. Three weeks later, you set sail with about 24 other families for the land known as America. Your captain, Captain Tom Sullivan, is a new captain but is a captain non-the-less. On the voyage, you hit a large storm in the middle of the ocean, and the Captain says that the ship was blown slightly of-course and will require a day or two to correct the ship’s course. He also says not to worry about it….
4 days later you realize that you should have worried about it as you over-hear your parents talking about if they get stuck out in the ocean, lost. The weeks pass slowly and you begin to worry that that conversation had come true. The ship is running out of food, even though it didn’t have much when it left because of the famine, and you are starving. Now words are going around about an uprising against the crew and captain. Your parents argue strongly against it but are out-numbered by far. The raid of the crew is scheduled for two days in the future. On the night of the raid, your doors are locked and bolted and you are told to keep quiet. You are hiding with your family in the back room of your family quarters, when you hear a loud crash. a knock is a t your door. Nobody answers it. They People outside barge in and yell,”Come out! We’ve struck land!”
It wasn’t America. Everyone knew it ,but they were afraid to say it. The Captain and his first mate were the only ones left alive becuase they knew a lot about the sea and how to pilot boats, all information they would need to find their way to America. The boat had been damaged upon crashing into the beach, and much of the hull scraps had washed away. They tried to rebuild it but were having trouble….
Three years later, you are now 9 years old. The boat is crumbling everywhere and wont last much longer, so they decide to launch it and see how it handles. Not the brightest idea. The hull cracked and the ship tipped over right after the launch. Now, you had no ship. Your people continued to build their new kingdom….
After many years stuck there, you are now 17. One day your friends come to you and talk of overthrowing the government. By now, the government was very corrupt and living on the island was a dangerous existance.
